The Badass Upgrade That You Want to Use

There were many years when I used to think badly about myself; it had a lot to do with the people that I chose to spend my time around as well as the men that I dated. I’m a magnet it seems for cruel men and even though I get involved with them and recognize them for who they are, I also have a hard time leaving them once I’m with them.

The last man that I was with pretty much sucked the life out of me; I didn’t even resemble the person that I was before that and I haven’t dated anyone since. There are just certain things that are hard to get over.

I knew that I needed to upgrade the thoughts that I had about myself. After being told for a long time that I was stupid and worthless, I started to believe it. Getting out of that situation opened my eyes to the fact that the problem was with him and not me. So how was I going to get myself back to the badass Viking that I was? The road back to that girl wasn’t easy.

Reprogramming your mind from negative thoughts to positive ones isn't easy. You can tell yourself that you’re awesome all you want, but unless you truly believe it, you’re always going to revert to those bad thoughts about yourself. You have to constantly be telling yourself you’re a badass, powering your mind to take you back to a positive mind frame.

While reading, You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero I learned that a great way to reprogram your mind is to believe the good things that people say about you. We all have at least one person in our life that thinks we’re pretty awesome. They keep telling us this and we rarely listen, right? Well, the idea here is to take that person in your life and to use them as sort of a mentor to creating the new you. If they think your beautiful, intelligent, talented etc., there has to be a reason for it, right? So, start believing everything they tell you.

“Instead, try seeing yourself through the eyes of someone who admires you. They get it. They believe in you leaps and bounds. They aren’t connected to your insecurities and negative beliefs about yourself. All they see is your true glory and potential. Become one of your own die-hard fans…” (You Are a Badass)

The idea is to see yourself through their eyes and when you do that you will see that the things they say about you are true. As soon as I read this the first person that came to my mind was Ben, one of my best friends. Ben has seen me sweaty after a workout, drunk, happy, sad, mad, you name it he’s seen it all and yet he thinks I’m fucking awesome. It doesn’t matter how many mistakes I make he is constantly telling me how amazing I am and how I can attain anything that I want. His comments come from a selfless place because he genuinely believes these things. So, I decided that I was going to believe the things that he said about me because they’re true, dammit! He makes me feel good about myself and that’s why he holds a special place in my heart. We all have that one person, so use them to bring yourself away from those negative thoughts until you no longer need them anymore. Be that badass person that we know is inside of all of us.
